With her first collection of poetry Ms. Wallace has opened new doors for a style of poetry that can stand alone without a convenient label. She avoids the awkward "shopping list" images popular with the purveyors of the new poetry, but makes the poetry of academia fusty in comparison. Her style cannot be classified as traditional but has a reminiscence of the masters who have come before her.
The bulk of this collection was written well over ten years ago during most of her teenage years and yet the experience she conveys would seem to suggest a clarity of vision way beyond her years. Her lucid style gives way to an ability to create sharp images of loneliness, alienation, humor, pathos and inspiration.
Ms. Wallace when asked to describe how she feels about her writing has said that she considers poetry an art form that is not necessarily always pinned down to meters and rhyme. "I decided to draw my experiences of life with words instead of paint. If I can cause the reader to see what I see, then I have done my job."
